I had never seen such eyes. I would love to read and re-read this book over again many times. It twists between the different narratives with a dancer’s elegance and precision. Every book Belinda Alexandra writes is a masterpiece, this book is no exception. The mystery about la Rusa was also so very well done, I couldn’t help but get invested in it.

The only thing that kept it from being 5-star was one element of suspended golfen I’m not a fan of that literary device and that I will not reveal as s I was totally drawn into this story. This is a special book with intricate but well designed plot lines, distinct and intriguing characters and alexanddra new perspective on the Spanish Civil War. Paperbackpages. I would give this author another shot, but I’ll have to talk to my sister, who has read previous books, to avoid any others like this. What a fantastic book! I was not familiar with the wars in Spain, what a fabulous education I received. The church, Franco, the Republicans, the Socialists Get to Know Us. Spain, Castro, flamenco, ballet, ghost. I closed my eyes goldrn pushed the image of me standing in front earrihgs the noticeboard, bathed in sweat and with nausea rising in my stomach, out of my mind.

The history lesson was fascinating – as a non-European, I found these stories of Spain’s history to be so different from our own here in Australia, that I was drawn to it like a moth to flame. It’s great story telling though and as I said above, educational about the war.
